Step 1
Pre-Upgrade Assessment
Begin by contacting a Licensed Service Provider and schedule a Pre-Upgrade Assessment with a Certified Energy Advisor. The cost of the Assessment is subsidized by Efficiency NB up to 50%, and conducted by a Natural Resources Canada licensed service provider. You will receive a report and summary of recommended energy efficiency upgrades.
Efficiency NB subsidizes the cost of energy efficiency assessments by up to 50%. Most homeowners pay $150 for the Pre-Upgrade Assessment and $110 for the Post-Upgrade Assessment. Owners of homes larger than 4,000 square feet pay $250 and $150 respectively for the Pre- and Post-Upgrade Assessments.
What is a Pre-Upgrade Assessment?
The first and most important step to learn how to save money and conserve energy in your home is to schedule a Pre-Upgrade Assessment with one of the five licensed service providers. The Assessment is an invaluable tool that will provide you with your home’s energy efficiency rating and provide you with recommendations on how to improve your energy efficiency. The duration of the Assessment will depend on the age and size of your home.
A typical Pre-Upgrade Assessment involves the following steps:
- An attic-to-basement assessment of your home’s insulation levels, envelope (shell or wall system), heating, cooling, and ventilation systems.
- A “blower door” test to detect air leaks and drafts.
- A personalized Pre-Upgrade Report and recommended energy efficiency upgrades.
Your Pre-Upgrade report will include:
· Prioritized recommendations for upgrades to improve your home’s efficiency;
· The current EnerGuide rating of your home; and
· Your home’s potential rating based on the completion of the recommended upgrades
Your Energy Advisor will review the report with you, and answer any questions you may have. The report will help you plan your upgrades.
