Where to put your CFLs?
|
Learn where to use ENERGY STAR qualified light bulbs to maximize your satisfaction and savings. More choices are available now than ever before! Where would you put your new CFLs? You can base your decision on the following: - Where a light is on for more than three hours a day, such as the kitchen, family room, recreation room or workshop.
- Where a light is in a hard-to-reach place, such as a recessed dome in a high ceiling.
- Where exterior lights are on for much of the night (be sure that the CFL is labeled for exterior use).
Other useful tips to maximize your satisfaction and savings: - ENERGY STAR qualified light bulbs perform best in open fixtures that allow airflow, such as table and floor lamps, wall sconces, pendants, and open ceiling fixtures.
- If your fixture is connected to a dimmer or tri-level switch, pay close attention to the label when shopping for your CFLs to make sure you buy the right bulb.
- When installing CFLs outdoors, check the package for the low temperature rating to ensure that the bulbs suit your local climate. Install CFLs in outdoor enclosed fixtures whenever possible to protect them from the cold, wind, and humidity.
