This workshop is in response to the growing demand by consumers to improve the energy efficiency of their homes. Since January 2007, over 27,000 New Brunswick households have had home energy evaluations under the Existing Homes Energy Efficiency Upgrades Program. Many of these homeowners are looking for knowledgeable contractors to take on their renovation projects. In addition to advice, the Upgrades Program provides New Brunswick homeowners with financial assistance to make their houses more energy efficient.
The two-day workshop, developed by Natural Resources Canada and sponsored by Efficiency NB, focuses on the unique challenges faced when improving the energy efficiency of existing homes. The workshop covers basic principles related to heat loss, air leakage and moisture control in existing housing. It also covers the use of a wide range of new and traditional building products and problem-solving exercises.
This workshop is a must for contractors who want to expand their business and increase their knowledge in the energy efficiency upgrade market.
The course will cover topics such as:
- Building analysis;
- Building products; specifications and installations;
- Retrofitting the building envelope;
- Improving mechanical ventilation;
- Heating system basics;
- Appliance and lighting efficiency;
- Healthy housing.
